I’ve been doing groups and workshops or as I like to call them playshops for a few years now. Anxiety is always felt by the brave humans that sign up. Historically, the motivation to join one of my groups has been centered around the needs of your child so it’s easier to “suck it up” and just show up for them. However, this time around, I am asking you to join for you. I know it’s a hard ask. We’re all too busy, too tired, too stressed, too broke, too shy, too _______ you fill in the blank. And I get it. I’m also too all the things right there with ya ;) but as a culture we’re also too isolated and too lonely. Let’s rebel and band together supporting one another. This job of parenting is not meant to be done alone.
The moment you walk through my office door the stress will start to leave your body. You will feel warm and welcome. I help facilitate the groups with some structure so small talk isn’t necessary and those lonely, awkward feelings will quickly start to fade. I help everyone breath deeply and center and arrive just as you are.
As we dive into the focus of the group you will be met with art, play, writing, and/or discussion invitations. I set very clear ground rules and work from a trauma informed framework. You will never be pressured to do or say anything. We are all on our own unique journeys gathering for a common goal. We will arrive at crossing our own finish lines on our own schedules.
Wait….did she just say art? I know. I know It sounds terrifying. Rarely do I meet an art positive grown up. Most of us have experienced such severe art scars by the time we’re in middle school we never make art again. I am not an artist either. I AM an art therapist, however, and I know intimately the healing powers of art making. I create a VERY safe space for exploring art and play. (Yes, I know the word play is also scary for some adults. Same deal: safe, safe, safe.) Check out the offerings blow.

Groups will be 9 one hour sessions. We’ll have 3 meetings per week over the span of 3 months from November to January. We will meet at my midtown office on J street.
Mindful Mamas: creating a sustainable practice

I think by now it’s common knowledge that mindfulness is a great thing. It’s so incredibly helpful for our mental, physical and spiritual health, for parenting, for relationships, for managing stress, for an overall sense of wellbeing among other amazing benefits. But it can be so difficult to create and maintain a sustainable daily practice.
I have 8 years of studying, teaching, practicing and “failing” to start over again in my practice.
In 2010 I began my journey at the San Francisco Zen Center. I started a year long program called Entering the Path of Practice. I learned skills for creating a meditation and mindfulness practice. It was life changing and so challenging. I felt called to do it the following year as well.
In the summer of 2011 I completed a 10 day silent Vipassana Center course and retreat in the early stages of my twin pregnancy. Briefly breaking my silence when morning sickness began and I couldn’t tolerate the smell of the delicious vegetarian food being served and instead asked for toast. It was an amazing experience allowing complete tranquility as I connected with my new uterus residents.
At Spirit Rock in Marin I’ve attended many daylong and multiday retreats and I’m also a committed volunteer there. Maybe I’ll see you there soon. All of that to say I have some experience and practice. I’m convinced the only way we can pass along mindfulness skills is by first being mindful ourself. Same in parenting. The most effective way to pass on these lifelong benefits to our children is to allow them to experience US in a state of sustained peace.
Together we will learn the basics. Posture, breath, sitting and walking meditation practice, focused attention, body awareness. We will also explore ways to incorporate mindfulness into parenting and our daily life. Let’s be honest it can be really hard to find half hour to sit daily. And so we multitask because we’re moms (yes, I know that’s a slight oxymoron in the meditation world! ;)
Gratitude Gals: path to joy and peace

I’m going to mention two words that so many of us are kind of sick of hearing about. Are you ready? Ok, here goes: self care. We all know that we need to apply our oxygen mask first but for many reasons we get so caught up in the mom hustle that we’re constantly running on empty. My solution, is to embrace those words and jump on the self care train.
Gratitude will serve as the driving force. We will create gratitude journals, learn some of the amazing powers of gratitude and decide how we want to incorporate practical self care rituals in our routines. If this gets you all steamed up you can sign up here!
Emotionally Complicated Pregnancy Support: life after grief

We all come to pregnancy from different circumstances. Let’s face it pregnancy can be complicated enough on it’s own. Then a dose of life is thrown in the mix and it can feel incredibly lonely and hopeless. All of the scenarios are welcome here in this nonjudgmental supportive group of strong women finding their way together.
Together we will process our stories and create empowering art for moving forward. At the end of the day, regardless of the circumstances pregnancy is pure magic. While the abyss of loss, unexpected life changes, traumas, etc can be blinding there is another part of the story left to come. Let’s work through the pain and heartbreak so we can enjoy preparing for a new little blessing due to arrive.

Money Matters for Women: mindset, blocks + beyond

Is it getting hot in here? Just seeing the word MONEY is incredibly loaded. Especially for women. Our relationship with money carries generations of baggage. The web is complex and tanged. No matter our SES or background we have fears, stories, shame and blocks that we carry around like a backpack full of rocks.
Another simple truth is women need money and wealth more than ever. We are different with money. Wealthy women know where money needs to go to support social justice. The world needs healing and we all know that the future is feminine and it’s our time to confront any old beliefs we have around money energy and start to allow abundance to flow in our direction.
We will explore our past, present and future relationships with money. We will look at the spiritual side of money. We will support each other and create money intentions for our futures.
